Nearly New Kids on the Block
Metrobeats are a new Swansea band who are already making a name for themselves. They recently supported a major book launch which raised over £2,000 for a local charity. They have a seriously special mystery gig coming up. More on that below.
I spoke to Stuart; their rhythm guitarist who told me:
Although we’re a new band most of us have been around the block – and back! We’ve all played in various bands since the 60s and 70s, apart from Danni, our singer, who is the baby of the group as she hasn’t got a bus pass. (laughs) Paul our bass player has played in dance, jazz and rock bands and in orchestra pits for theatre productions. Trevor our lead guitarist most recently played with the Liz Owen band in London.
Metrobeats play a heady cocktail of blues, rock and soul – mainly from the 60s and 70s, but with a few surprises thrown in.
Denzil our drummer has supported many major acts across the UK including Slade, Status Quo and Medicine Head, but says he doesn’t like to name drop. Doesn’t stop him, though!
They’re playing at another big fundraising gig on March 30th in The Vault. The gig will be for an exciting new project set to be a big boost for the entertainment industry in Swansea. Stuart wasn’t allowed to tell me just what the project is yet. All will be revealed soon!
Metrobeats are available for hire for pubs, clubs, and parties. They are also happy to consider donating their services free to support good causes.
Check out their Metrobeats Facebook for bookings and the latest on that mystery gig!
